So Cal indeed is a desert - including regarding finding conservative and like-minded people. It can get lonely - and frustrating - dealing with the lack of commonsense in this intellectually arid place. It got so annoying that I moved out of the city to the mountains nearby. Close enough for going into work a few days a week, but far enough away for sanity. It is wonderful. I am a bit of a jack of all trades at the moment - from professoring as a day job to stand up comedy for fun, and pursuing a doctorate degree one class at a time. Before all this, I spent time as a jazz saxophonist, and I also was a competitive fencer. The current push to get much done is by choice, but I am looking to simplify and slow down sometime very soon. I can be pretty motivated and hard-working and serious, but also silly. I can have equal enjoyment in a dive bar, strolling through a museum, at the theater, sitting in nature, engaging in an intellectual endeavor, traveling, relaxing with family or friends. I am earnest. Really, a good chat is how you'd get to know me.
